Honestly, the two-year-plus gap is hard to ignore. The Gentlemen wasn’t some obscure Netflix experiment that needed years to find an audience. The first season became one of the platform’s most talked-about shows, and viewers were ready for more almost immediately.
The delay makes more sense when you consider what happened behind the scenes. The enormous response to Season 1 wasn’t something the production team could have predicted. Netflix renewed the series in August 2024, but Guy Ritchie and the cast already had other commitments. Coordinating everyone for a new production took time, with filming eventually getting underway in spring 2025.
Still, knowing why something took so long doesn’t necessarily make the wait less annoying.
The Gentlemen Season 2 Plot: Eddie and Susie Are Playing a Bigger Game
Season 1 ended with Eddie and Susie in a dramatically different position from where they started.
Eddie initially wanted nothing to do with the criminal operation attached to his family estate. His plan was essentially to deal with the mess, protect his family’s interests, and get out. That plan aged about as well as you’d expect.
By the finale, Eddie had stopped pretending that he was merely trying to survive.
He was in.
Season 2 picks up one year later, with Eddie and Susie working together to expand Bobby Glass’s criminal empire. The problem is that Bobby’s influence hasn’t disappeared just because he’s behind bars. His decisions continue to create problems, and increasingly unstable choices threaten everything Eddie and Susie have built.
That leaves them facing a brutal choice: continue following the old rules or take control before someone else does.
And this is where the story becomes much more interesting than a simple ‘new gang, new villain’ setup.
Eddie has changed.
He spent much of Season 1 resisting the criminal world because he saw it as something beneath him. Now he understands exactly how much power comes with it. He’s learned how to manipulate people, make threats, negotiate with criminals, and occasionally do things that the old Eddie would probably have considered unthinkable.
Power changes people. Eddie has finally discovered that power is addictive.
Susie, meanwhile, has always understood the game better than Eddie. She’s colder, more experienced, and considerably less sentimental about the business. Their partnership works because their personalities are so different, but that same difference could eventually become the thing that tears them apart.
Italy Changes Everything
One of the most exciting developments for Season 2 is the expansion into Italy.
The first season had a wonderfully claustrophobic British identity. Country estates, pubs, criminal warehouses, eccentric aristocrats, and shady businessmen all collided within a world that felt unmistakably English.
Season 2 appears ready to blow that world wide open.
Eddie and Susie’s growing operation takes them toward the Italian lakes, introducing a new environment and, more importantly, new criminal players. The Italian mafia brings an entirely different set of rules to the table.
That’s exactly the sort of change this series needs.
There is a danger that successful crime shows eventually become self-parodies, endlessly recycling the same locations, characters, and betrayals. Moving the story into Italy gives The Gentlemen an opportunity to become bigger without losing its identity.
And with Guy Ritchie behind the wheel, I wouldn’t expect the Italian portion of the story to be particularly peaceful.
Eddie and Susie: Partners, Rivals, or Something More?
The relationship between Eddie and Susie remains one of the biggest reasons to watch Season 2.
There is obvious chemistry between them, but calling them a romantic couple would be far too simple. Their relationship has always been built on mutual respect, attraction, suspicion, and the knowledge that either person could potentially become the other’s biggest problem.
That’s what makes them work.
Eddie doesn’t completely trust Susie.
Susie doesn’t completely trust Eddie.
And both of them are smart enough to know it.
Season 2 could push that tension much further. Eddie now has ambition of his own, while Susie has spent years building her reputation within a world where weakness is punished quickly. If their goals start pointing in different directions, their partnership could become a very dangerous arrangement.
I’d actually prefer the show to resist turning this into a conventional romance. The uncertainty is far more entertaining. Watching two people wonder whether they can trust each other is considerably more interesting than simply watching them fall in love.
The Gentlemen Season 2 Cast
The major returning cast members are back, led by Theo James as Eddie Horniman and Kaya Scodelario as Susie Glass.
Their return is essential because the show simply wouldn’t work without the strange chemistry at its center.

The mystery is probably intentional.
With a Guy Ritchie production, announcing a character too early can be almost as dangerous as meeting the character itself. The fun is often in discovering exactly who these people are, what they want, and which unfortunate character they’re about to make miserable.
Why The Gentlemen Season 2 Still Has So Much Hype
The biggest question isn’t whether people want another season.
They obviously do.
The real question is whether Season 2 can live up to the first season.
The original series worked because it didn’t take itself too seriously while still treating its characters as real people with understandable motivations. It had ridiculous violence, bizarre criminals, extravagant wealth, and deliberately outrageous situations, but there was always enough character development underneath the chaos to keep everything from feeling empty.
That balance is difficult to reproduce.
The first season also benefited enormously from its ensemble. Theo James gave Eddie the perfect combination of privilege and reluctant brutality, while Kaya Scodelario’s Susie was arguably even more compelling. Daniel Ings turned Freddy into a walking disaster who somehow remained impossible not to watch.
The result was a show that arguably had more room to develop than the 2019 film.
The film was fun, stylish, and unmistakably Guy Ritchie. But the Netflix series had eight episodes to let its characters breathe. Eddie’s transformation felt gradual, Susie’s motivations became clearer, and the criminal world felt like something larger than a collection of colorful villains.
Season 2 now has the opportunity to push that concept further.
What the Season 2 Teaser Suggests
The early footage has already teased the kind of spectacle viewers can expect.
Fast cars, expensive locations, violence, lavish Italian villas, criminal negotiations, and the trademark humor are all part of the package. It looks bigger without abandoning the visual identity that made Season 1 so recognizable.
That’s encouraging.
What I’m hoping for, though, is that the writers don’t fall into the obvious sequel trap. Bigger isn’t automatically better. The Gentlemen doesn’t need ten new gangs, fifty explosions, and a villain who makes Bobby Glass look like a harmless accountant.
What it needs is better complications.
Give Eddie a problem he can’t solve with money.
Give Susie a reason to question her own position.
Give Freddy another spectacularly stupid idea.
And, above all, put Eddie and Susie in a situation where working together becomes much harder than working against each other.
That would make Season 2 genuinely dangerous rather than merely louder.
The Gentlemen Season 2 Release Date: Is It Worth the Wait?
After such a long break, expectations are inevitably high.
That’s the downside of leaving a successful show alone for more than two years. Fans don’t simply want another season anymore. They want the season that justifies the wait.
Fortunately, the ingredients look promising.
The Gentlemen Season 2 arrives on Netflix on September 3, 2026, bringing back Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Ray Winstone, Vinnie Jones, and the rest of the returning ensemble. The story jumps forward one year, Eddie and Susie are operating on a larger scale, Italy becomes a major new setting, and a collection of unpredictable new characters is entering the picture.
Personally, the Italian expansion is what interests me most. The first season already established that Eddie and Susie can dominate the British side of the operation. Watching them step into territory where they don’t control the rules should expose exactly how powerful they have actually become.
And that’s the part I’m waiting for.
Because Eddie Horniman is no longer the reluctant aristocrat who accidentally inherited a criminal empire.
He’s becoming the kind of man who might actually deserve one.
