House of Guinness left me with exactly the kind of frustration I want from a historical drama: I was invested, slightly annoyed, completely suspicious of half the characters, and then the season ended before giving me the answers I wanted.
Steven Knight’s Guinness family saga has already built a surprisingly nasty little world of money, ambition, politics, sex, betrayal, and family resentment. Dublin feels grim rather than romanticized, the characters rarely make sensible decisions, and the brewery empire is constantly sitting in the background like a giant machine waiting to crush somebody.
So naturally, the question after Season 1 is simple: how many episodes will House of Guinness Season 2 have, and when will Netflix release them?
The short answer is encouraging. Season 2 is expected to follow the first season’s eight-episode format, although Netflix still needs to confirm the final episode count and release schedule officially.
And yes, eight episodes feels about right. I wouldn’t want Netflix stretching this story into ten or twelve episodes just because the audience is hungry for more. This show works because it moves quickly when it needs to and doesn’t give every subplot room to become its own television series.

House of Guinness Season 2 Is Happening
The biggest piece of good news is that House of Guinness has been renewed for a second season.
That matters because Season 1 clearly wasn’t written like a completely self-contained historical miniseries. The finale leaves several character conflicts hanging in the air, and some of them are far too messy to resolve in a neat little epilogue.
Steven Knight has also approached the series as a much larger family story rather than simply a drama about the origins of a famous beer company. That gives Season 2 plenty of room to expand the world.
The problem is that bigger doesn’t automatically mean better.
The first season worked best when the Guinness family drama stayed personal. Whenever the story became too interested in explaining its historical importance, I found myself wanting the camera back in the room with the characters. Season 2 needs to remember that.
How Many Episodes Will House of Guinness Season 2 Have?
The expected answer is eight episodes.
That would match Season 1 and makes sense for Netflix’s current approach to expensive historical dramas. Eight episodes give Knight enough space to develop several storylines without allowing the pacing to collapse.

I wouldn’t treat the episode count as locked until Netflix or the production team confirms it. But if the show keeps the same structure as Season 1, eight episodes is by far the most logical outcome.
And honestly, I’m fine with that.
Eight strong episodes are preferable to a bloated season where three hours exist mainly to move characters from one room to another.
What Could Happen in House of Guinness Season 2?
This is where things get interesting.
The Season 1 finale leaves several characters facing consequences that can’t simply disappear when the next season begins. The attempted assassination and its aftermath should be the immediate starting point.
Episodes 1–2: The Fallout
Season 2 should waste very little time dealing with the consequences of the shooting.
Arthur Guinness is placed in an extremely vulnerable position, while Patrick Cochrane’s hostility creates another dangerous layer around the family. The political consequences could be just as important as the physical ones.
If Arthur survives, I expect him to become even more controlling.
That could be one of the strongest directions for the character. Arthur already has the instincts of someone who believes control equals security. Put him through an assassination attempt and give him even more power afterward, and suddenly paranoia becomes part of his personality rather than just a reaction to the plot.
I want the show to push that.
Episodes 3–4: Dublin Meets New York
The Guinness fortune was never going to remain confined to Ireland.
A second season could spend considerably more time exploring the family’s international ambitions, particularly the connection between Ireland and New York.
This is potentially the most visually exciting part of the next season. Dublin and Gilded Age New York offer completely different environments, but both are built around money, status, class divisions, and ruthless competition.
There’s plenty of material here.
The danger is that the American storyline could start feeling like a completely separate show. Knight needs to make sure the transatlantic expansion actually affects the family relationships rather than becoming an expensive sightseeing tour through 19th-century New York.
The Family Drama Should Get Even Uglier
For me, this is where House of Guinness Season 2 has the most potential.
The brewery is fascinating. The politics are fascinating. The period setting looks fantastic.
But the family is the reason I kept watching.
The relationships are uncomfortable in exactly the right way. Nobody seems capable of simply talking to another person without an ulterior motive, and that’s much more entertaining than another polished historical drama where everyone behaves like they’re aware they’re in a prestige television series.
Olivia’s complicated marriage to Arthur and her connection to Sean Rafferty could become particularly explosive.
The secret child, romantic betrayal, and emotional distance surrounding these characters aren’t just soap-opera decorations. They threaten the family’s carefully constructed public image.
And a family obsessed with reputation is always one scandal away from imploding.
Episodes 5–6: Secrets Start Breaking Apart
This could be the point where the season becomes genuinely vicious.
The Guinness heirs have enormous wealth, but wealth doesn’t magically make siblings agree. Quite the opposite. Money gives people more reasons to fight.
Who controls the business?
Who gets the money?
Who gets the public recognition?
Who is actually loyal to the family?
Those questions could create more tension than any external political enemy.
I’d also like the series to resist the temptation to make every character secretly brilliant. Some of the appeal of Season 1 came from watching people make terrible decisions and then desperately try to live with them.
Keep that.
Let them screw up.
Episodes 7–8: Politics, Philanthropy and Another Cliffhanger
The final two episodes will probably broaden the story again.
The Guinness family’s wealth eventually became associated with philanthropy and social projects, particularly in Dublin. That creates an interesting contradiction for the series.
What happens when wealthy industrialists genuinely try to improve society while simultaneously benefiting from an economic system that leaves enormous numbers of people struggling?
That’s far more interesting than simply portraying the Guinness family as either heroes or villains.
The show has an opportunity to explore that contradiction without turning into a history lecture.
And I’m expecting another cliffhanger.
After the way Season 1 ended, Netflix would be foolish to suddenly give viewers a peaceful finale where everyone shakes hands and goes home.
Will Netflix Release All 8 Episodes at Once?
This is another area where the answer is fairly predictable.
If Netflix follows the release strategy used for Season 1, House of Guinness Season 2 should arrive as a complete eight-episode drop, allowing viewers to binge the entire season immediately.
That’s probably the best approach for this particular series.
The show is built around interconnected storylines, and stopping every week at an arbitrary point could weaken some of the momentum. When the tension is working, I want to watch the next episode immediately. Waiting seven days because Netflix decided to imitate traditional television wouldn’t necessarily improve the experience.
Of course, Netflix could always change its strategy. Until the official release plan is announced, the binge model remains an expectation rather than a guarantee.
Who Could Return for Season 2?
The central ensemble is expected to remain the backbone of the series.
Likely returning performers include:
- Anthony Boyle as Arthur Guinness
- Louis Partridge as Edward Guinness
- Emily Fairn as Anne Plunket
- Fionn O’Shea as Benjamin Guinness
- James Norton as Sean Rafferty
- Jack Gleeson as Byron Hedges
James Norton in particular gives the series another useful source of tension. Sean Rafferty isn’t simply dangerous because he’s aggressive; he’s dangerous because personal motives and larger ambitions keep colliding around him.
That kind of character can either become incredibly compelling or ridiculously overused. Season 2 needs to choose the first option.
When Could House of Guinness Season 2 Be Released?
Don’t expect the second season immediately.
With production expected to begin in 2027, a release toward the end of 2027 would be possible, but early 2028 feels like the safer expectation.
A historical drama like this isn’t a cheap production. Period locations, costumes, set construction, large-scale scenes, international filming and post-production all take time.
I’d rather Netflix take the extra months than rush the show.
The first season established a very specific visual identity, and recreating that world properly matters. If Season 2 arrives looking cheaper simply because Netflix wants to hit a convenient release date, fans will notice instantly.
My Biggest Concern About Season 2
Here’s my worry: House of Guinness could become too impressed with itself.
The ingredients are already there.
Prestige production. Famous creator. Historical setting. Wealthy dynasty. Political intrigue. Large ensemble. Expensive costumes.
That’s exactly the kind of recipe that can produce a brilliant drama or a painfully self-important one.
Season 2 needs to keep its rough edges.
I want arguments that feel personal. I want characters making selfish choices. I want consequences that actually hurt. I want the Guinness family to feel like a family first and a historical institution second.
If Knight manages that, eight more episodes could be fantastic.
If the show starts treating every conversation like a monumental historical event, I’m going to lose patience very quickly.
