There is a particular kind of frustration that comes with watching Reacher week by week. You spend seven days trying to piece together the conspiracy, guessing who is lying, wondering what Jack Reacher has missed — and then Amazon gives you another episode and expects you to wait again.
Well, we’re almost there.
Reacher Season 4 is heading toward its final two episodes, and if you’ve been following the Philadelphia story closely, September is about to get very interesting. Episode 7, “Vote for Sampson,” arrives on September 9, followed exactly one week later by the season finale, “Cut.”
And honestly, after everything this season has thrown at Reacher, I don’t want a quiet ending. I want answers, consequences and at least one spectacularly violent confrontation.

Episode 7 is particularly important because it is the penultimate chapter. There is no longer much room for the story to wander around Philadelphia collecting clues. The pieces have to start locking into place.
And that’s exactly what I want from “Vote for Sampson.”

Why “Vote for Sampson” Could Be the Season’s Turning Point
Season 4 has taken Reacher into a very different environment.
Gone is the feeling that he can simply roll into a small town, identify the bad guys and start breaking things until the truth comes out. Philadelphia gives the story a much larger playground — and, frankly, a lot more chaos.
The conspiracy surrounding stolen government files, military figures, political ambitions and the mysterious photograph has gradually become more complicated. Reacher and Tamara have spent much of the season pulling at threads that keep leading somewhere more dangerous.
That makes Episode 7 feel less like another chapter and more like the moment when the writers finally have to show their hand.
The biggest question for me isn’t whether Reacher will survive. Come on. This is Jack Reacher.
The real question is how much damage the conspiracy has already done before he gets the chance to stop it.
Tamara is also crucial here. Her partnership with Reacher has given the season another character capable of operating in the same dangerous territory without simply becoming a sidekick. That’s a difficult balance to pull off, and it has helped keep the investigation from turning into another one-man demolition tour.
Meanwhile, Jacob Merrick and Plum are caught in increasingly dangerous circumstances, while information coming from Plum’s contacts appears to push the conspiracy into territory far bigger than anyone initially expected.
If Episode 7 does its job, by the end of it we should finally understand why the photograph matters, who is manipulating events and what the real objective is.
If it doesn’t? I’ll be annoyed.
At this point in an eight-episode season, mystery for mystery’s sake is no longer clever. Payoff matters.

The three-episode premiere was a smart move. It gave the season enough room to establish its characters and central conspiracy without making viewers wait three weeks just to understand what was happening.
The weekly rollout afterward is a different story. Personally, I understand why streaming services do it, but Reacher is almost painfully well suited to binge-watching. Once the conspiracy starts moving, waiting seven days between clues feels cruel.
What Should Happen in the “Cut” Finale?
The finale has several jobs, and I’m not particularly interested in excuses if it drops the ball on any of them.
First, the missing USB drive needs to be resolved. A major MacGuffin can be useful, but by the finale it needs to mean something beyond “everyone wants the thing.”
Second, Reacher’s position in Philadelphia has to be addressed. He’s spent much of the story dealing with law enforcement pressure and the consequences of being caught in a situation where almost nobody knows whose side he’s actually on.
Third — and most importantly — the people behind the conspiracy need to face consequences.
That’s where Reacher has an advantage over a lot of modern action shows. The series doesn’t need to turn every villain into a misunderstood antihero. Sometimes the bad guy is simply the bad guy, and Reacher is perfectly comfortable making that distinction physical.
I’m expecting “Cut” to lean hard into action, but I hope the writers don’t use explosions and fistfights to paper over unresolved storylines. The best Reacher finales work because the violence is the payoff to the investigation, not a substitute for it.
And Then Comes Neagley
Here’s where September 16 gets considerably more interesting.
Once Reacher Season 4 reaches its finale, Prime Video is scheduled to launch Neagley, the spinoff centered on Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten.
That’s a smart choice.
Neagley has always had the kind of presence that makes you wonder what she gets up to when Reacher isn’t around. She’s competent, intimidating and — crucially — interesting enough to carry a story without borrowing Reacher’s entire personality.
The biggest selling point is that all eight episodes of Neagley Season 1 are scheduled to arrive simultaneously on September 16.
So viewers potentially get the exact thing Reacher has been denying them all season: a full binge.
And yes, Alan Ritchson is expected to appear as Jack Reacher, giving Amazon an obvious bridge between the two shows.
That timing is not subtle. Amazon clearly wants September 16 to feel like an event rather than simply the end of another television season.
What About Reacher Season 5?
The end of Season 4 isn’t the end of Reacher.
According to the information surrounding the franchise, Season 5 has already been renewed, meaning fans don’t have to spend the next year wondering whether Amazon will pull the plug.
The early expectation points toward a late-2027 release window, with speculation that the next season could adapt Lee Child’s Make Me.
If that happens, the change of scenery could be significant.
Make Me takes Reacher into the mysterious community of Mother’s Rest, a setting that would once again move the series away from the dense urban atmosphere of Philadelphia.
And honestly, I wouldn’t mind that.
Philadelphia has given Season 4 a harsher, more claustrophobic identity, but one of the pleasures of Reacher has always been watching this enormous, highly capable drifter walk into completely different environments and immediately make everybody else’s problems worse.

My Take: Season 4 Has Earned a Strong Finish
I’m enjoying the ambition of Season 4, but I’m also going to be demanding about the ending.
The Philadelphia setting works. The conspiracy has become suitably nasty. Reacher remains one of the most entertaining protagonists on streaming, largely because Alan Ritchson understands that the character doesn’t need to shout to dominate a scene.
But the final two episodes are where the season will ultimately be judged.
“Vote for Sampson” needs to provide real answers. “Cut” needs to make those answers matter.
If the finale manages that while delivering the brutal action Reacher fans expect, Season 4 could go down as one of the franchise’s strongest chapters.
If it spends 50 minutes teasing another mystery for Season 5, I’ll be considerably less generous.
For now, the schedule is simple: September 9 for Episode 7, September 16 for Episode 8. And after that, if Amazon sticks to the planned rollout, there’s an entire Neagley season waiting to be devoured.
Not a bad way to spend September.
